Our History
1964 We are founded
Marion Fox and Bob Pope founded Superior Plumbing & Heating when Anchorage switched from oil to natural gas.
1978 Welcome Jan Van Den Top
Jan Van Den Top, a mechanical engineer and pivotal player in our history, joined the company.
1983 Beginning of service
Superior Plumbing & Heating starts their service department, allowing them to maintain installed systems regularly.
1992 Welcome Linc Service Franchise
Superior Plumbing & Heating acquires the Linc Service Franchise, bringing industry-leading best practices, tools, and technology to our service department capabilities.
1994 Welcome Alaska Sheet Metal
Alaska Sheet Metal is purchased by Superior Plumbing & Heating and expanded their capabilities in fabrication and installation.
1996 Beginning of the ESOP
The employees launched an employee ownership quest to become 100% employee-owned.
2004 100% employee-owned
The company officially becomes 100% employee-owned, ending an eight-year quest.
Welcome Haakenson Electric & Superior Mechanical
Haakenson Electric is purchased, bringing in a crucial component to our organization. Our service department was also renamed to Superior Mechanical.
The Superior Group, Inc. is formed
Out of our employee ownership endeavor, The Superior Group, Inc. was formed as our corporate entity centralizing our accounting and HR functions.
2006 Welcome Support Services of Alaska
The Superior Group purchased Support Services of Alaska (SSA), an engineering firm, to enhance our expertise and take more of our design in-house. Later, SSA evolved into a commissioning and retro-commissioning specialty firm.
2019 Introducing the Electrical Services Department
The Superior Group started by providing electrical services to clients, including regular maintenance and 24/7 emergency response.
2022 TEGG becomes a trusted partner of Haakenson
Haakenson Electric acquires the TEGG Franchise for the state of Alaska, broadening our capabilities in electrical predictive maintenance and safety.
2025 The Superior Group, Inc. replaces individual companies
We unified our expertise under one name to better serve our clients and community.
